With the 2017 Little League® International Tournament officially underway, Little League Baseball and Softball has launched a new feature content series, known as #ThisIsLittleLeague, that shares stories from local communities and highlights the many facets of the Little League experience.
From heartwarming moments on and off the field to documented journeys throughout the International Tournament, #ThisIsLittleLeague provides an inside look at the children, parents, volunteers, and communities who come together to have fun and create lifelong memories on Little League diamonds around the world.
Here are some of the #ThisIsLittleLeague features you can expect to see this August:
Join together with the Council of Houston’s Inner City Little Leagues (C.H.I.L.L.) and take a closer look at an Urban Initiative Jamboree. From sights and sounds at this year’s Jamboree to a trip to Minute Maid Park where many Little Leaguers experienced their first live Major League Baseball game, this piece uses a Houston community to showcase the importance of the Little League Urban Initiative program throughout Texas and beyond.
In Dorchester, Mass., the Savin Hill Little League Martin Richard Challenger Division exemplifies why every town in the world should participate in the Little League Challenger Division® through the poignant story of the league’s namesake. For the members of Savin Hill Little League, the Challenger Division does more than just provide incredible opportunities, it allows for the spirit of an eight-year-old boy to live on forever after the tragedy at the Boston Marathon in 2013.
Follow volunteer umpire Mike McCullough’s journey from a local league in Florida all the way to Williamsport for the 2017 Little League Baseball® World Series. In The Call: A Volunteer Umpire’s Journey to Williamsport, we track McCullough from his volunteer duties in Tampa to the pinnacle of Little League Baseball with an insider’s perspective at how one volunteer umpire earned a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Take a visit out West to explore the inspiration behind a memorable season for Hilo Little League making its first regional appearance in 30 years. And absorb all the sights and sounds these tournaments - that feature teams from up and down the left coast - have to offer!
It only comes once a year, so we are bringing you the best stories from this year's Little League Baseball World Series. One player from the Latin America region has brought energy and inspiration to his game and his team. A few of the players on Canada's team have their mothers to thank for some athleticism, along with education and unconditional support. We're reliving the MLB Little League Classic from the Little Leaguers' eyes! And showing you how some successful careers in baseball, hockey, and life started right here on the baseball diamonds in Williamsport.
Join together in the conversation by using #ThisIsLittleLeague on social media to share your heartwarming moments with us as we tell the story of what the Little League experience is all about.
